Every Memorial Day Weekend we meet very special people that we are proud to call our Cal Cup friends! This Cal Cup 45 was no exception as we had a very special guest Ned Dawson, the CEO & Publisher of Planet Hockey Magazine. Ned made the trip to Cal Cup from his native New Zealand on his own dime just to see for himself what all the hub bub with Cal Cup was about....
Ned, an accomplished sports action photographer graciously took the lead capturing some of the most amazing images Cal Cup has ever seen! The wonderful news is that Ned has given us the Cal Cup Organizing Committee now more than 5000 of these high resolution images to use as we please. We are indebted to Ned for his generosity, and we want to make great use of these photos by making them available to all of you Free of Charge! In the coming weeks we will be notifying all Cal Cup 45 participants where these photos can be viewed and downloaded.
Planet Hockey Magazine is published and distributed electronically every other month Free of Charge. We want all of you to support Planet Hockey Mag by going to their website: planethockeymag.com, & signup in the VIP area to receive their free eMagazine.
Planet Hockey Magazine also has a great sister site: planethockeyforum.com. This site is a public Forum discussing everything field hockey, on a global basis. Ned has created a special forum for Cal Cup where he has made myself (Marc) the official moderator. We want to hear your voices, good, bad or indifferent about Cal Cup, your experiences, how we can improve it, anything on your mind!
Lastly, Ned Dawson has already told us that he has made his reservation to come back next year to Cal Cup 46! Ned hinted that he may bring with him some very special hockey guests recognizable on the World Stage... We can't wait!
Day 3 Action was off the hook - featuring our youth divisions!
Today we celebrate Cal Cup Founder Tom Harris who competed in his 45th Cal Cup! Tom has competed in every Cal Cup since he began this great event in 1972. No other Cal Cup participant has matched Tom. We can't wait to see Tom play in his 46th Cal Cup. If you see Tom around the venue please stop and congratulate him for all he has done for our great sport.
Today was a day that we want to celebrate the future of hockey by recognizing our youth players! Children as young as 5 years of age competed in their first Cal Cup. Seeing the enthusiasm, smiles on their faces and support from their families is truly priceless!
We have added a Live scoring widget to the homepage of calcup.com website. As the final scores come in from each of the games you will see the results posted and the standing automatically updated! Use your mobile device to see your competitors!

The Golden State of Field Hockey
The California Cup International Field Hockey Tournament was started in 1972 by Tom Harris with just six men’s teams. Forty-Five years later, the tournament now popularly known as Cal Cup has grown to 150+ teams in 14 divisions and played over 4 days. Cal Cup is North America’s only Field Hockey Tournament featuring clubs & teams from many countries such as USA, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Holland, Spain, Taiwan , Australia, Malaysia & India to name a few.
Many current and former International players from many of these countries play for various clubs that participate in the Men & Women Super Divisions with a *US$7,500* prize for each Champion. FIH level umpires from different countries as far as Germany & Australia are invited to officiate. In all, more than 2,000 athletes; young and old alike, participate in the tournament.
Cal Cup is held annually over the Memorial Day Holidays (weekend preceding the last Monday in May) at the Moorpark College, California. It is located just an hour NW of Los Angeles and within driving distance to many popular destinations such as the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Dodger Stadium, Disneyland, Universal Studios, The Griffith Observatory, The Paul Getty Museum, the California Missions, and many well equipped shopping malls.
Come and enjoy California’s outdoor activities: golfing, biking, mountain hiking, camping, kayaking, beach hockey & volleyball and swimming in the Pacific Ocean.
Cal Cup, in partnership with JDH USA, is proud to announce the return of our international dragflicking and skills clinic, this time with some Dutch flair to complement the Aussie power. We welcome back Luke Doerner, and are pleased to introduce you to Lucas Judge. Luke is the current dragflicking coach for Australia men and women. Luke won the 2010 World Cup with the Kookaburras, scoring the winning goal in the final. He then helped the Kookaburras repeat their success in 2014 at the World Cup in The Hague, and has been the dragflick coaching force of the Australian Hockeyroos in their rise back into the top 3 in world hockey.
Lucas is a former Dutch international who is the rising star of international level coaching in The Netherlands. He was assistant coach for the Dutch women last year at the Hockey World League finals and was just appointed head coach at the newly created Dutch men's first division team called Oranje-Rood (Orange-Red). The new club is built on the recent success of Oranje-Zwart in the EHL and the expansion of hockey in Eindhoven in The Netherlands.
